Polyester is a tightly woven synthetic fibre that doesn't absorb moisture. It pushes sweat to the fabric surface, but in humid weather (or against a sweating body), that sweat doesn't evaporate fast enough. It sits trapped between the fabric and your skin, along with sebum, dead skin cells, and the bacteria that naturally live on the body.

Warm, damp, and sealed in is exactly the environment bacteria multiply in. That bacterial growth is what causes the smell that won't wash out of polyester activewear. It's also what causes the rashes, itching, and breakouts that most women blame on "sweat" but is actually a fabric problem.

Polyester wasn't designed for Indian climates. It was designed to be cheap to produce and easy to print on. The discomfort is a side effect the industry has chosen to ignore.

Cotton absorbs sweat which sounds ideal, but it also holds onto it. A cotton sports bra after twenty minutes of pilates is heavy, soaked, cold against the skin, and slow to dry. It also loses shape quickly and offers no stretch or recovery, which means no support and no movement.
