Is your sports bra lying to you? A guide for Indian women

Woman wearing a QivoFit full coverage sports bra in black, showing the wide underband and racerback

If your sports bra fits your bust but gapes at the band, you are not between sizes. You are in a size chart that assumes your whole body grows with your bust. It does not. The fix is to size by band first and cup second, so the underband does the support work instead of your shoulders. Our bras run S to XL, with cups up to G.

Sizes S to XL
Bust 32 to 46 inches
Underbust 28 to 43 inches
Cups A to G up to a 38 band, up to DD at 40 and 42 bands
Sizing method Band-driven, with cup depth mapped to each size
Construction Moulded built-in cups, wide underband, racerback, high neckline, full coverage
Impact Medium to high
Fabric Qurve™ nylon-spandex, 75% nylon and 25% spandex, 220 GSM. Polyester-free, Oeko-Tex® Standard 100

Why you keep ending up in the wrong size

How many times have you picked up an M or an L, and it did not fit, not because your body is big, but because your bust does not fit that size? And then you get pushed into the next size up.

Most sizing systems assume body proportions scale together. A fuller bust does not mean a wider ribcage, broader shoulders or bigger hips. But the chart treats them as one number.

What happens in practice: a woman who is an M everywhere else needs a larger cup on a medium band. Most brands in India do not offer that combination, so she sizes up to an L or XL. Now the band is loose, the straps carry the weight, and nothing sits where it should.

That is not a body problem. It is a design problem.

India has its own body-size data now. The Ministry of Textiles commissioned INDIAsize, a national sizing survey that 3D-scanned more than 26,000 people across six cities and finished in 2023, specifically so the apparel industry could stop grading Indian garments off Western size blocks. Most sports bras sold here still are.

What actually fails, mechanically

  • Narrow underbands: the bra rides up as soon as you move
  • Thin straps: your shoulders take the load instead of the band
  • No cup separation: bounce instead of containment
  • Stretch with no recovery: the fabric gives up once sweat and motion get involved

Notice that none of these are about size. A bra can be your correct size and still fail on all four.

What bust-inclusive sizing means

It is a simple idea. Your bust size should not decide your whole body size, and your body should not have to adjust to fit a chart.

Instead of scaling S, M, L and XL in a straight line, we build around three things:

  • Band stability. The underband does the heavy lifting, not the straps. A wide, firm underband anchors the bra so it does not ride up.
  • Cup volume mapping. Each size maps to a specific cup depth, not just a chest measurement. That is what lets a fuller bust sit in an M without the band going loose.
  • Stretch recovery. The fabric returns to shape after movement and sweat, so the bra does not sag halfway through.

This is why the construction details matter. Our Full Coverage Sports Bra has moulded built-in cups that are not removable, a wide underband that sits flat instead of digging, a high neckline and a racerback. Each one answers a specific failure point above.

The same thinking runs through everything we make. Here is how we build for Indian proportions.

It is a medium to high impact, built for gym sessions, weight training, cycling, pilates, court sport and running. More on that here: medium vs high impact, and how much support your workout needs.

What to look for in a size chart

Two things tell you whether a brand has actually thought about fuller busts.

Cup guidance. S, M, L and XL on their own tell you nothing about cup fit. A chart that maps band and cup to each size tells you whether your combination exists at all.

Where the range stops. Look at the largest bust measurement and the largest cup, and check whether the two go together. A chart can list a 46 inch bust and still stop at DD.

Ours maps band sizes from 28 to 42 and cups from A to G onto our four sizes, so you can find your exact combination rather than guessing. Cup G is available up to a 38 band, and up to DD at 40 and 42 bands.

Finding your size

Three steps, two minutes.

  1. Measure your bust at the fullest point and your underbust just below the breast.
  2. Find that combination on the size chart on the product page.
  3. If you are between sizes, go up for the cup and down for the band. A snug band with a comfortable cup is the right fit.

Common questions

I only know my regular bra size. How do I pick?

Use your band number and cup letter together, for example 34D or 38F. The size chart converts that into S, M, L or XL, so you are not guessing from your bust measurement alone.

I have a medium frame and a fuller bust. Will this fit?

That is exactly the combination it is designed for. Cup depth is mapped to each size, so you can have the cup room you need without the band going loose.

How do I know the size is right once it arrives?

Two checks. The band should be snug enough to fit two fingers underneath, no more, and it should not ride up at the back when you move. The cups should hold the bust with no spillage at the top or sides. If either fails, the size combination is off.

Are the cups removable?

No. They are moulded and built into the bra, so they hold their shape through movement and washing and never fold or shift out of place. Here is how moulded cups and removable pads actually differ.

Do you make anything above cup G?

Not yet. Cup G up to a 38 band is our current range. If you are outside it, write to us, because where our range needs to go next is decided by what customers tell us.
